Digital Citizenship
A digital citizenship curriculum empowers students to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in our digital world. These 21st-century skills are essential for students to harness the full potential of technology for learning. The resources collated in my program for Stage 4 (11 to 13 years) help students to develop their skills in two ACARA General Capabilities: Information and communication technologies and Creative and critical thinking. Underpinning these capabilities are essential literacy skills. The scope and sequence cover a range of learning activities that include I.C.T Literacy, Information Literacy, and Digital Literacy. Assessment tasks AS learning, FOR learning and OF learning are designed to be posted into a Google Classroom stream. The modes of learning and assessment include: Reading, Comprehending, Viewing, Listening, Writing and Representing. The summative assessment task is an inquiry-based learning project.

At its core, the unit endeavours to bridge the digital literacy divide that many non-mainstream populations fall into by developing students’ digital skills and capacity. The scope and sequence should be hosted on an interactive platform like Edublogs or Google Classroom to allow for differentiation of the posted activities. In this way students can connect at their own pace and support can be provided so students may move along their literacy and general capabilities continua. In so doing, they gain an awareness of their roles and responsibilities as digital citizens through connecting, collaborating and creating in an online world.
